Every journey is a story. Our story begins with stepping through “The Gateway to Morocco” into the cosmopolitan port city of Tangier where cultures have co-mingled for millennia, and modernity lives alongside tradition. We’ll experience Tangier’s intoxicating character, a heady concoction of an Arab/Berber base with European notes of Spain, Portugal, France and England. While there we will visit Tangier’s quaint, sweet neighbor, the nearby seaside village of Asilah. Our story continues to unfold as we leave Tangier to cross the Moroccan countryside by train traveling over rolling hills, past crops and orchards, and through charming hillside towns. The further we travel, the more we move back through time, until we reach the deep, spiritual heart of Morocco, the UNESCO Heritage site and ancient imperial capital of Fez. Here we encounter the historic cultural and intellectual depth of Morocco. The bustling souks, the call to prayer, the craftsman at work in their studios. We shop for handmade wares, taste homemade tajines, luxuriate in exotic hammams and learn about the Sufi mystics of Fez, the yogis of Islam. Our story comes to a meaningful end at the renowned World Sacred Music Festival where the world’s greatest sacred music artists stir our hearts and feed our souls with song. A story to remember. A story just waiting to happen.
