Restorative justice is not just a theory or a model — it is a culture.

STRONGHOLD co-directors, Karena H. Montag, MFT & Claire Whitmer, will explore how to turn theory into practice, embodiment and culture. In this three day training, we will unpack the difference between restorative and punitive justice, examine the ways punitive justice shapes our lives, and imagine and practice how integrating a restorative justice stance can shift our internal framework as well as the culture of the systems and communities in which we live.

Our exploration will include particular attention to the role of power and privilege, and attention to the intersection between racial identity, harm, and accountability. We will center the wisdom of our own lived experiences and bodies during these 3 experiential days in Mendocino County. During our time together, we will be supported in our community practice by the land and nourishment of Bell Valley Retreat in Boonville, CA.
